Details

This is a splendid antique five-light Neoclassical chandelier, silver plate over pewter, in its original polychrome finish. The silver plated chandelier is signed “Empire.” Dating from the 1920’s, the chandelier begins with a canopy ornamented with an intricate twisted border and long, overlapping leaves in a warm copper color. The chandelier’s baluster-shaped body is crowned with a loop finial and features an intricately cast bead pattern, followed by a geometric design on a polychrome background. Below are a leaf-and-dart pattern and abstract designs. The polychrome base of the chandelier is formed by a pentagonal bowl, adorned with intricately cast volutes and lattice, accented with acanthus leaves. On each side of the bowl is an urn overflowing with fruit, flowers, and vibrant green leaves. The arms, ornamented with acanthus leaves and a torsade pattern, extend outward from the chandelier base to support bobeches with a geometric pattern. A prism dangles from the underside of each bobeche. This light fixture is in excellent condition; it has been professionally rewired and comes with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. It measures 17” wide, 16” tall (body only), and approx. 37” long overall.
