Description
A striking Mueller Mosaic Co. sculptural dolphin fountain spout, modeled in deep bas-relief and rising in a dramatic serpentine curve. Catalog examples from the period show this model at approximately 16 inches high, used in both interior and exterior architectural fountains. This form appears in several surviving Mueller installation catalogs, typically grouped with their architectural fountain ornaments and “artistic spouts.”
Salvaged from the monumental tiled fountain in the Windsor House foyer, the piece retains its brilliant cobalt glaze, characteristic of Mueller’s high-fire polychrome bas-relief line. The expressive sculpting, crisp detailing around the mouth, and fluid scrollwork body are all consistent with Mueller’s 1930s sculptural output.
The dolphin spout served as the upper water source above the peacock panel. Because collectors often seek the sculptural elements separately from the tilework—and because these spouts were produced as standalone catalog items—this listing presents it independently, as it would have originally been ordered.
A highly desirable sculptural Mueller piece—far rarer than their standard tiles—and an outstanding focal point for a fountain, garden, entry niche, or collector’s display. This dolphin is in good antique condition, and measures 7-1/4″ wide by 16-1/4″ tall and projects 4″.
