Description
An incredible antique Federal fireplace mantel, dating from the 1820’s and salvaged from a home in Kentucky. This elegant antique fireplace mantel features a striking carved frieze with a dramatic radiating sunburst motif that spans the full width of the header. The design centers on a carved oval medallion, with finely fluted rays extending outward to create a bold architectural focal point.
Flanking the frieze are carved panels with matching radial detailing that echo the central sunburst pattern. The mantel is supported by substantial, clean-lined pilasters with understated molding, giving the piece a balanced blend of decorative carving and classical structure. Layered crown molding along the top adds depth and a refined profile.
The mantel is in very good condition and measures 71-1/4″ wide, 62″ tall and 8″ deep; the firebox opening measures approximately 45-1/4″ wide and 37″ tall. This piece requires a custom shipping quote; please contact us if you have any questions.
