Opalescent Stained Glass Window with Iron Frame- Windsor House, c. 1930s

$1,975.00

Product Code: NSG270-RW / Print This Product

A beautifully detailed stained glass window salvaged from Windsor House- also known as the “Castle Above the Clouds” on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Built in the 1930s by George and Elizabeth Scholze, the residence reflects the couple’s refined taste and attention to detail. George Scholze, second-generation owner of the prominent Scholze Tannery in Chattanooga, helped earn the city its nickname, “Saddle Capital of the World.”

The arched upper section features richly colored opalescent glass, with soft, swirling tones of amber, green, and rose, arranged in a geometric pattern and accented with stylized floral motifs. The glass has a luminous, painterly quality, shifting with the light. Below, clear glass panels are set within an iron frame, providing a simple, grounded contrast to the more decorative upper section. The overall composition reflects the Spanish Revival character of the home, where decorative glass was used to bring warmth, color, and light into the interiors.

This window measures 39-1/2″ wide, 45-5/8″ tall, and the frame is 6″ thick.
This piece is in good condition with some rusting along the metal frame, and a few cracks in the glass(as pictured). This piece requires a custom shipping quote, please contact us if you have any questions.
