Description

This is a wonderful antique Aesthetic Movement cast iron mantel in its original faux finish, circa 1870. The mantel has its original slate top, below which is a remarkable cartouche with a highly stylized, geometric plant design, flanked by black L-shaped panels with coordinating geometric detail. A vertical panel, ornamented with the same design, runs down each side of the mantel. The mantel is in very good antique condition, with some slight paint loss on the slate top, which can easily be repainted, and some minor paint splatters on the finish, which are barely noticeable and do not detract from the beauty of the design. The mantel measures 60” wide, 41 ¾” tall, and 12” deep; the firebox opening is 19 7/8” wide and 26 7/8” tall.
