Description
This is a splendid antique four-light cast brass chandelier, dating from the 19th Century, in its original, beautifully aged japanned finish. It begins with a simple, copper flashed canopy, coming down in a pole to a ribbed, flared piece which connects to the elliptical chandelier body. The chandelier body is adorned with intricately cast acanthus appliqués and is encircled in the center by a beaded band. The S-curved arms fasten to the band with small floret pieces. Above the floret, each arm branches into a splendid foliate-detailed, reeded volute. The base of the chandelier body, wrapped in foliate appliqués, finishes in a finial. This light fixture is in very good antique condition; it has three tiny hairlines in the canopy (pictured) which are hardly noticeable and do not detract from the beauty of the piece. The chandelier has been professionally rewired and comes with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. It measures 21 ½” wide, 10” tall (body only), and 50” long overall.
