Description

This is a marvelous antique six-light chandelier, in its original vibrant polychrome finish, circa 1925. The fixture begins with a wonderful polychrome canopy, featuring oval sunbursts with red centers, framed at their bases with intricate floral detail. The sunburst design alternates with a green foliate motif framed with volutes. Below, an egg-and-dart pattern accented with red encircles the canopy. The canopy finishes in a remarkable loop finial with foliate accents, and comes down in a chain to the chandelier body. The chandelier begins with a leafy loop finial accented in green, golden yellow, and red. Below the finial is a hexagonal section, to which are attached three slender, colorful foliate stems, which curve outward and then back in, forming the chandelier body. The original, hand-pulled prisms dangle from each stem near the top of the body. Where the stem angle changes about halfway down the body, each stem is accented with a hanging diamond-shaped medallion. Each medallion is accented top and bottom with colorful leaf detail and framed with an intricately cast beaded border. The center features a red and green flower on a cream-colored background. The medallions are connected by a swag of delicate, beaded chain. The three stems continue to the base of the chandelier, where they finish in a green and red leaf-detailed bowl, from which hangs a small finial. The center of the body, coming down through the center of the stem arrangement, is formed by a fluted pole, held at each end by a polychromatic cluster of leaves. Three pairs of arms (six in all) are formed of three semicircular bands, curving outward to accept intricately detailed polychrome foliate bobeches. This light fixture is in excellent condition. It has been professionally rewired and comes with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. The chandelier body measures 20 ¾” wide and 21 ½” tall, and the fixture is 39 ¾” long overall.
