This is a fascinating set of three antique figural cast iron door knob sets, inscribed “Board of Education of the City of Detroit – Incorp’d Feb. 17, 1842.” The scene on each knob depicts the figures of a woman and child looking at a star, and features the inscription “Sicitur ad Astra” above. The edges of the knobs are ornamented with a torsade pattern. These are in excellent condition. Each knob has a diameter of 2 ¼”, and the depth of each knob is 2 1/8” on one side of the set and 2 ½” on the other. The rod length can be adjusted to fit virtually any door.
