A striking antique American majolica glazed fireplace tile, dating from the 19th century, and found in a home in New York, NY. The tile features a portrait of a young man wearing a feathered hat and was most likely designed by Isaac Broome. It was manufactured by the Trent Tile Co. located in Trenton, New Jersey. The tile company was established in 1882 as the Harris Manufacturing Co. an soon changed its name to the Trent Tile Co. It was well known for the beauty and variety of its embossed glazed tiles, which were available in 118 colors and thousands of designs. The tile is in good condition with the expected surface crazing and few minor nicks (as pictured.) It measures 6” by 6”.
