Mueller Mosaic Co. Peacock Tile Panel with Original Basin – Windsor House

$8,900.00

Product Code: NFT88-RW / Print This Product

A spectacular inlaid-faience peacock tile panel by Mueller Mosaic Company of Trenton, New Jersey, corresponding to the firm’s catalog design No. 1041-S (“Adopted Designs”). The panel depicts a stylized peacock with radiating plumage and spiral tail—an iconic Mueller motif from their late-1920s/early-1930s design vocabulary.

This particular example was salvaged from the historic Windsor House, also known as the Castle Above the Clouds on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Built in the 1930s by George and Elizabeth Scholze, the home featured an extraordinary, museum-quality commission of custom and catalog Mueller faience tile throughout—unusual for the region and executed at a level more typical of California or New York estate work of the same era.

The tiles retain their vivid original glazes—rich cobalt, emerald, and terracotta—and are accompanied by the original ceramic basin/bowl, glazed in a brilliant yellow typical of Mueller’s polychrome palettes. Together, the panel and bowl form a complete decorative fountain ensemble. It measures 12-1/4″ wide by 20″ tall and projects 8″. This piece requires a custom shipping quote; please contact us if you have any questions.

A rare, investment-grade example of Mueller’s figural faience—ideal for collectors, designers, or restoration of a Spanish Revival or Art Deco space.
