Description
A beautifully hand-forged iron gate, salvaged from the landmark Windsor House—the famed Castle Above the Clouds—on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Installed in the home during its lavish 1930s construction, this exceptional gate represents the pinnacle of custom ornamental ironwork commissioned for George and Elizabeth Scholze. Built in the 1930s, the residence reflects the couple’s refined taste and attention to detail. George Scholze, second-generation owner of the prominent Scholze Tannery in Chattanooga, helped earn the city its nickname, “Saddle Capital of the World.”
Every component reflects the high craftsmanship characteristic of early 20th-century ornamental iron ateliers, combining Spanish Revival, Mediterranean Revival, and Neo-Baroque influences.
It is in good antique condition, and measures approx. 33-1/2″ wide by 68″ tall and projects 4-1/2″; the overall width including the metal flange on the side is 37-1/2″ wide. This piece requires a custom shipping quote; please contact us if you have any questions.
